Understanding islands: The Oxford Dictionary defines the word “Island” as a piece of land surrounded by water. It cannot be larger than a continent but may vary in size. How are islands formed? Islands can be formed in many ways. Volcanic islands form from the lava from underwater volcanoes. Magma from the earth's core would seep through the crust then the lava would cool and becomes solidified and over time, creates an island.

Another way is coral reef islands. Corals build a hard exoskeleton and over millions of years can form an island. Additionally, another way to form an island would be the moving of tectonic plates. Some islands form by the shift of the earth usually involving tectonic plate movement. The process of subduction is when two tectonic plates collide leading one to slide under the other. Melting of the plate can form magma creating volcanic island arcs. Flooding, due to global warming, can make an island. Just as this website :under construction"; men can make islands, as island can indeed - be made. Made for benefits to economy, its production contribution to pollution and global warming poses a question of how profitable are they, when the sea rise its contributes to can flood it again.

Island can disappear too!... Do you know how?

Let's explore some islands below:
